If you’ve never tried Mrs. Dash, you might want to check it out. For starters, Mrs. Dash has zero calories and of course, no sodium. The original blend contains onion, black pepper, rosemary, mustard, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, savory, thyme, oregano, marjoram, bay, basil, celery seed, garlic, orange peel, tomato, lemon juice powder, and carrot. I love to season my recipes with Mrs. Dash rather than adding salt to them, although in many recipes that call for salt, I skip it altogether and allow everyone to season their own portion “to taste” – this is especially true when I have guests because you never know who is really concerned about their sodium intake for health reasons. Mrs. Dash is now available in a Table Blend that can allow you to replace that naughty salt shaker while still adding delicious taste to your food.
One of my favorite ways to use Mrs. Dash is in a delicious stir fry. This is a hearty and quick meal to fix that is yummy on its own or when served over whole grain rice.
2 carrots, thinly sliced (diagonally)
2 cups of broccoli (I prefer the florets)
2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
10 ounces package of snow peas
1 small tomato, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Mrs. Dash Original Blend
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (you can use other varieties, this is just my preference)
Heat oil and Mrs. Dash over high heat. Add broccoli and carrots. Cook for two minutes while constantly stirring. Add snow peas and mushrooms and cook for two more minutes. Add red wine vinegar and tomato and stir for one more minute or until the vegetables are tender. This recipe serves six and has just 50 calories per serving. I sometimes like to throw in a few slices of red onion in this stir fry, although that’s optional.
Enjoy!
