Fruity O’s from Cascadian Farm also has no artificial colors or flavors. Their fruit flavors are all natural and the cereal itself is made with whole grain oat flour. There are no partially hydrogenated oils or artificial dyes and colors in Fruity O’s. All of these are big pluses. And its vitamin fortified to provide 25% of the iron and 35% of the zinc that you need per day in just one single serving.
So out of the box, this cereal looks very much like my (and perhaps your) childhood favorite. Three fruity colors, purple, orange and yellow make up this fun and filling cereal. The serving size is ample. A whole cup is just 120 calories, and has 3 grams of fiber. I ate this cereal with almond milk, although I think this would be a good choice for a snack – just eat it dry for a quick, satisfying pick-me-up that has few calories. Or, it is great with some fage yogurt and some frozen fruit, like frozen bananas.
If you’re not into “kiddie” cereals, you might enjoy some of the other cereals that I’ve blogged about in the past. One of my absolute favorite cereal brands is Kashi. If you missed my post on Kashi Mighty Bites Cereal, then let me reiterate – these are delicious with a few frozen blueberries and a cup of almond milk. Like Fruity O’s, you can have an entire cup of Kashi Might Bites for just 120 calories, too.
I also like Barbara Bakery’s Puffins Cereal or Shredded Spoonfuls. Barbara’s cereals are overflowing with good stuff, including fiber and protein. Puffins are airy and light (I love the Cinnamon variety best). I find all of these cereals at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.
Enjoy!
