I was having a few friends over to my house to visit a couple of weeks ago, and I was determined to find some nice "classy but snacky" foods to serve them. While I was looking around the Whole Foods cheese section, I came upon this very pretty little jar of fig spread. Several weeks prior to finding the jar at Whole Foods, I had the opportunity to taste fig spread at a Costco snack station of all places, and I was really impressed with how well it went with cheese. Not being a big jelly fan, I was surprised at how much I liked it. So, given the occasion, I decided to buy some from Whole Foods.
I know a little bit about figs, having written about them in my immunity boosting foods posting. As a quick refresher -- figs are high in fiber, help regulate blood pressure, and are really filling. They also taste great.
The Whole Foods Fig Spread (called Organic Adriatic Fig Spread) was a big hit with my friends and I loved it as well. It is incredibly thick, rich, and sweet and pairs really well with nuts, cheese and crackers, and fruit. A little bit can also be added to fage yogurt or your other favorite yogurt to create a really tasty lunch or rich dessert.
In the calorie department, one tablespoon (20g) of the fig spread is 60 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 0 grams of fiber, so it is good that a little goes a long way. I find that adding a teaspoon (1/3 of a serving) to my foods here and there is very satisfying and adds some sweetness/taste that I really appreciate.
In case you are interested in figs, but aren't interested in fig spread, you might want to check out low calorie figamajig bars or figamajig bite sized candies.
Enjoy!

I love the wraps below! Do they have them in anything but rye?
I have seen fig spread on a lot of blogs lately! Maybe while I'm rocking out WFs this weekend I will pick some up! Happy Friday!
Fig spread sounds great! I need to get some!
I never liked Fig Newtons, so I always thought that meant I didn't like figs. (Turns out it just meant cookies should have chocolate or peanut butter in them.) Then a couple of years ago I tried Stonewall Kitchen Fig & Ginger Jam. Love it!!
The recent muffin recipe I featured on my blog uses that fig spread - love the stuff!! :-)
omg Weird. I'm eating that on toast with my oatmeal RIGHT NOW. lmao I loveeee it. It's so rich and thick it's amazing.
I'm like you, Juliet, in that I'm not much of a jelly person ... but I do love fig spread with cheese. Especially a nice, sharp cheese. Heavenly!
sounds great. my grandmom makes fig jam which is my all-time favorite.
Ooh fig spread. Never had it but it does sound tasty, the sweetness mixed with the saltiness of cheese would be fantastic!
This are some great foods, I have tried a few recipes. Very nice! ;D
Nice spread. I am not usually interested in figs but that looks great.
