Low Calorie Whipped Topping

tru whip low fat and low calorie whipped creamI was a huge Cool Whip fan during the part of my life when I was less ingredient conscious (and I didn't know that it had hydrogenated oils in it). I then switched to a different favorite whipped topping, Fat Free Reddi Wip which I still love, although, I've found that the container seems to run out of whipped cream before it should (I weigh the servings). So, I can't tell you how excited I was when I came across Tru Whip at Whole Foods -- an all natural (and mostly organic -- sadly not totally organic) whipped topping with no hydrogenated oils!

If you like, or liked, Cool Whip, you'll definitely like Tru Whip. It comes in a similar container and has a similar taste to it, although I honestly think Tru Whip tastes a bit better (then again since I'm comparing it to the fat free cool whip, the fat containing Cool Whip might taste better). As for calories, one serving of Tru Whip is 2 tablespoons, 11 grams (for people who weigh everything like me!), with 30 calories and 2 grams of fat (so 1 weight watchers point). Half a serving (or a dollop) of this stuff is only 15 calories and 0 weight watchers points, so it is totally "free" to add it to some fage yogurt, low calorie ice cream, fruit sorbet (I'll be blogging about my favorite soon), frozen cherries, steel-cut oatmeal, banana smoothie, frozen bananas, or even in some almond milk (it is good with the chocolate kind).

Tru Whip appears to be available at Whole Foods (where I bought it), Tree of Life, and United Natural Foods. If you can't find it, you can always eat Fat Free Whipped Cream, but if you can, it is worth giving it a try!

By the way - I recently got this fabulous butterfly award from Miss Joanna at A Cup of Joanna, who writes a very awesome blog that I love to read. :) Thanks Joanna!

Enjoy!

congrats on your award! And thanks for sharing your new discoveries. I agree with you, I think whipping is great and most of those fatfree or low fat whipping has tons of unknown ingredients. So I'm glad that you found this one!

You're so good! For me, the 15 calories per serving I'd save on the Cool Whip Free is worth the weirdnastycreepy oils they put in. :/ I'm workin' on it. ;)

P.S.: My puppy's a Pom! I love her sooo much!

I need to find this stuff...I made the mistake of looking at the ingredient list on Cool Whip on Thanksgiving and couldn't believe how long it is!

hey juliet!! you definitely deserve that award!!! your blog is fantastic!!

i also had the same crazy obsession for cool whip. i would just eat it straight out of the container back when i didn't care what i ate. i haven't found a non-dairy replacement yet, though. if i did eat dairy, i would get this. it's definitely a step up from cool whip.
