Okay, so I've been a HUGE fan of
fat free sour cream for a really long time. In fact, one of my first blog postings was about how much I loved it and all the foods I liked to add it to. Then, a few months ago, I sent my husband to the supermarket alone (I was busy and couldn't accompany him). I was making some
low calorie potato skins that night, and I specifically asked him to buy me some
non fat sour cream. Then, when he arrived home, I was beyond dismayed to find that he had bought low fat sour cream instead! As upset as I was, I was stuck and in need, so I decided I would eat low fat sour cream just this once. But, when I took a closer look at the container (it was Organic Valley brand low fat sour cream from Whole Foods) I was pleasantly surprised. The low fat sour cream was only 30 calories vs. 20 calories for a 2 tablespoon sized portion, and 2 grams of fat vs. 0 grams of fat, and thus it wasn't really going to mess up my diet at all. Happy with the caloric information, I spread the sour cream onto my potato skins, and I took a bite. What I tasted was REALLY good. As much as I've love fat free sour cream, I have to say that the low fat sour cream is AMAZING in comparison. It is really on an entirely different level. I'm forever hooked. No more non fat sour cream for me!
Here is a short list of some of the foods that I like to eat with low fat sour cream: carrots,
boca spicy chicken patties,
potato skins,
carrot soup, &
low calorie potato pancakes. There are tons of other possibilities of course! Please share yours in the comments!
Enjoy!

That is just way too funny how an accidental buy turned out to be the best thing! You better believe he's not gonna let you live that one down. :P
Emily -- I know! :) Sigh...
Jacket potatoes are also really good with sour cream!

I've gotten in the habit of using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It works really well and has lots of protein! Don't forget to add it to nachos!
