In order to cook the won tons, I sprayed some non-stick cooking spray into a pan, and then I "pan-fried" them without any added oils. Making them was really quick and easy and they came out crispy and delicious. In fact, the flavor and consistency really reminded me of samosas that you can get at Indian restaurants. Even better, these little vegan won-tons are low calorie! Six of them (55 grams) is 80 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of protein, and 1 gram of fiber (or 2 weight watchers points). That means that 9 of them (a perfect lunch) are 120 calories and also 2 WW points.
I've been looking around online and I see the brand that makes these yummy little won tons (O'Hana House) makes them in several flavors (not all Indian flavored) including Tofu and Vegetable as well as several other chicken and shrimp flavors which sound good (although I'm unlikely to try them since I don't eat chicken very often).
I bought my bite sized won tons at Whole Foods, but O'Hana lists availability at many other stores on their site. Even though I "pan-fried" mine, they also come with instructions for microwaving them, boiling them, as well as a quick recipe for soup.
By the way -- I had some ambitious plans to blog this week about my own recipe for a healthy, low calorie avocado smoothie (the texture of avocados in smoothies is amazing!), but unfortunately, I don't think I've perfected my recipe yet. If you have a great recipe, I'd love to look at it. And, if you are curious to test my not-yet-perfect recipe, just send me an email and I'd be happy to send it to you.
Enjoy!
