Wasabi Peas

Wasabi PeasWasabi Peas are commonly found in bars and at parties, but what you might not know about them is that they actually make a pretty smart, low calorie snack. What I personally love about them is how incredibly spicy and wasabi-y they are (I love Japanese food!). They also have tons of crunch which, as you know, is something I look for. Another great thing about wasabi peas is that they are very difficult to overeat because of their extremely strong wasabi flavor. Not only can you only eat one or two at a time, but they are also *not* the kind of snack where you will accidentally eat the whole bag (the spicyness would make most people sick).

So, what exactly are wasabi peas? They are usually made from ingredients like peas, rice, sugar, salt, wasabi powder, and oil. A serving of the wasabi peas that I have (my wasabi peas are Roland's Feng Shui brand) is 32g (that's a *lot* of wasabi peas!) with 120 calories, 1g fat, and 3g of fiber. That makes each serving only 2 WW points, and 1/2 a serving only 1 WW point or 60 calories. They also have 6g of protein (and a good amount of iron) so they are pretty balanced in terms of the calories/fat/protein ratio. Certainly not bad if you feel like you want to munch on something crunchy, but don't have a lot of points to spare (or if you don't want to eat too many calories)!

You can buy Wasabi Peas in the Asian section of almost any supermarket. If you want all natural ones (like the Roland's Feng Shui brand), you can seek them out at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or any natural food store. If you can't find wasabi peas locally, you can buy them online on Amazon or online at KMart.

Enjoy,
Juliet

Wasabi peas are a very flavorful, crunchy snack. And since they are so spicy, you end up eating in moderation and drinking a lot of water!

Where can you get these? Are they frozen (like edamame) or canned? I looked everywhere this weekend and couldn't find them. :-(

Hi Michelle -- They are actually in a plastic bag. You can usually find them near chips, nuts, or in the asian foods aisle. They are very common especially at Trader Joe's.

I buy mine in bulk at BJs Wholesale! $2.99 for a huge bin of them. They are SPICY and delicious!

Pffff

35g is nothing. I ate 200g the other day. They aren't very hot and have sugar so they are very addictive and extremely easy to eat the entire bag
