My First Post - Low Calorie "Milk"

low calorie almond breezeI've decided to start a blog about my favorite healthy diet foods. I've had some success on weight watchers, I failed Jenny Craig miserably (lost 3 pounds my first week, then went out to dinner and gained it all back). Now, I'm just pretty focused on maintaining my weight -- which is very challenging given all the things that get in my way -- free food at work, eating out with my husband, celebrations, holidays, lunches out with people at work, etc. etc. I've come to find that in order to just maintain my weight, I have to eat low calorie, healthier meals. Eating low calorie is much harder than people think, since 1200-1400 calories add up so quickly!

So, my plan is to use this blog to talk about some of my favorite healthy, low calorie foods.
When I say healthy, I mean foods that are smart, aka foods that don't have artificial sweeteners (like Splenda, for instance), high fructose corn syrup, or hydrogenated ingredients -- all of which I strive to avoid.

The food I'd like to showcase in this post is Unsweetened Almond Breeze (it comes in plain, vanilla, and chocolate -- all delicious!!!). You can find it at Safeway (usually), Trader Joes, or Whole Foods.

This stuff is amazing!! It is only 40 calories a cup (1 point for WW diet). Sometimes I put it in cereal, or smoothies, and sometimes I just drink it plain with some nutmeg, like eggnog. I highly, highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a low calorie milk substitute. Almond Breeze also makes a sweeter version, which is around 60 calories. I like to stick with this one, though, since it is so low calorie.

Enjoy!
Juliet

I drink about a carton a day of the unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze. It is at our local Hy Vee where the manager orders it by the case for me. I use it on oatmeal and make a daily protein fruit smoothie with it. No icky soy taste. Make hot chocolate with it also.

Hi Cindy! Yeah, Almond Breeze is sooooooo good it is almost hard to believe how low calorie it is! Lately they've been out of it at my two local Whole Foods which has been a major bummer for me. Anyway, thanks for all the comments! - Juliet

My local Whole Foods (San Ramon, CA) just got a brand new shipment on Saturday, September 6, and they are selling it at the discount price of $1.99 per carton. I also tried the unsweetened Chocolate flavored, and it is actually pretty good. The chocolate version has 5 Calories more than the original and vanilla version.

They also carry AlmondBreeze at any Cub Foods or Rainbow so if they happen to be out of it at Whole Foods just head to your local Cub or Rainbow!

unsweetened Almond Breeze Vanilla is DELICIOUS!!!!! Thanks for sharing! I read your blog last night for the first time and went out to buy it today - couldn't wait to get home to try it. I couldn't believe how much I love it. I can eat cereal again pain free (lactose intolerant) and without the calorie guilt!!
